Southall completed their season with a 2-1 win over London United Football Academy. The two Southall scorers were Ricky Fletcher and Chris Clafferty.
This result means that Southall are almost certain of second place in the league. FC Assyria would have to win their remaining five matches and overtake Southall's superior goal difference of +13 to claim second place.

April 19th
Southall's title ambition took a severe blow with a 2-1 defeat away to London United Football Academy.

Southall seemed to start the game less prepared than their opponents and quickly found themselves a goal down. In the eighth minute a Southall player was caught in possession of the ball by  the home team centre forward who slotted the ball home past Ryan DeCosta. To their credit Southall came back into the game and won a penalty on the quarter hour. Callum Long played the ball through to Orin Fredericks who was upended in the penalty area by the home goal keeper. Cris Barrett fired home the resultant penalty only to find that an infringement had been noticed by referee Jutkevicius who demanded that the spot kick be retaken. Cris Barrett made no mistake with the second kick to level the scores. The scores remained level until half time.

After the interval Ricky Fletcher was replaced by Tesfa Lowe. The Southall performance although a slight improvement on their first half display fell far short of their usual high standard.
On 63 minutes a free kick was given away just outside the penalty area. The shot which came from this eluded DeCosta and restored the lead for the home side. The last half hour was all Southall. Numerous chances were created and scorned and the game ended with no further score.

The Man of the Match Award, as judged by the Supporters' Panel, went to Callum Long.

This result leaves Southall still in pole position in the table one point clear of South Acton who have a game in hand and three points ahead of Park View who have three games in hand.

A win at home to London United next Saturday in the final game of the season is essential if Southall are to harbour any hopes of finishing in the top two places.

April 5th
Southall went to the top of Division One (Central & East) with a 2-0 win over promotion rivals FC Assyria at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre.

A goal in each half from Cris Barrett and Orin Fredericks respectively gave Southall a well deserved victory.

The Man of the Match Award, as judged by the Supporters' Panel, went to Charles Stephenson.

March 31st
Two more games to add to your collection!

The first recorded game on this date was in 1888 with a visit to neighbours Colnbrook  who beat Southall 5-1.

The last recorded game on this date was last year when Southall visited old rivals Walthamstow Avenue in the guise of Walthamstow Avenue & Pennant. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

March 27th
The link for the Southall Message Board has been temporarily removed. This is due to recurring access and administration problems.

March 22nd
Southall moved closer to top position in the league with an emphatic 5-0 win over league leaders South Acton.

Manger Ryan DeCosta was able to welcome back Marcus Denton, returning from injury,  for his first match since the win over St Lukes at the beginning of October. However, DeCosta found himself having to don the goalkeeping gloves due to the non availability of any of the registered keepers.

It was DeCosta who was to make the first impression on the match, and which was said by some to be the turning point of the game, when in the 10th minute he produced a good save to turn away a goal bound header.
Two minutes later Southall were ahead. Interplay between Orin Fredericks and Callum Long resulted in a cross from which which Ricky Fletcher found the net.
Southall continued to look the more impressive and the more likely to score and four minutes before the break Orin Fredericks rounded the keeper to slot the ball home to double Southall's lead.

Southall looked comfortable in the second half and the third goal arrived in the 67th minute. A cross from substitute Tesfa Lowe found Callum Long whose crisp shot gave the goalkeeper no chance. Four minutes late the same two players were instrumental in setting up the fourth Southall goal. A through ball from Lowe  was collected by Long who then found himself upended in the box. Joshua Morrison made no mistrake from the resultant penalty kick.
With ten minutes of the match remaining the game was briefly halted due to a snow blizzard. On resumption Southall sought to improve their goal difference and two minutes from time Orin Fredericks scored his second following up a miss-hit shot by another Southall player.

This was a good all round performance and the Man of the Match Award, as judged by the Supporters' Panel, went to Orin Fredericks.

March 15th
A goal in each half was sufficient to give a makeshift Southall team a 2-1 win over Sloane.

Orin Fredericks, returning after injury, put Southall ahead after 29 minutes. The lead was short lived as Sloane equalised nine minutes later following a defensive blunder. Cris Barrett scored shortly into the second half when he headed home a cross from Callum Long.

Chris Clafferty was named as Man of the Match by the Supporters' Panel.

March 8th
Southall's hopes of promotion and a possible first championship for 81 years suffered a severe blow when they lost 5-2 at home to fellow championship contenders Park View.
Park View, who are now in the Final of the Middlesex County FA Intermediate Cup where they will face Staines Lammas, had already beaten Southall twice this season both by large margins and so started the match as favourites.
The first half was very competitive with Southall having the edge in terms of possession and quality of play but it was the visitors who went into the interval in the lead with a goal in the 31st minute.
Park View doubled the lead on 55 minutes but Southall hit back two minutes later through James Barnes who had come on as substitute for Tesfa Lowe. Southall took the upper hand and continued to battle for the equaliser but were undone by two goals in two minutes as the away side hit Southall on the break scoring directly from a free kick and a long range shot that went in off the post. Park View added a fifth  three minutes from time when a  speculative shot hit the bar and was followed up with the Southall defence motionless.
As the game moved into time added on by referee Mr Russell a well directed free kick from Ryan DeCosta was headed on by Chris Clafferty into the path of substitute Simeon Day who made no mistake with his shot.
The result brought to an end an unbeaten run of eight matches stretching back to November.
Cris Barrett was named as Man of the Match by the Supporters' Panel.

March 1st
Southall maintain second position in the table with a 2-0 win away to West End United. A good team performance and goals from Cris Barrett and Tesfa Lowe put Southall in a strong position by half time. In contrast the second half was disappointing with neither side looking capable of scoring.
Ryan DeCosta was named Man of the Match.

February 23rd
Goals from Josh Morrison and Ricky Fletcher late into the second half gave Southall all three points in their home match against Stonewall. .Josh Morrison was selected as Man of the Match.

Southall came back from two goals down to defeat St Johns Athletic 5-2 and maintain second position in the table. The web master is indebted to Nirmal Dhaliwal for this further information about Southall Sunday's Division Two League Cup Semi Final victory over Spartans.

Southall Sunday      8   Spartans      0

Spartans probably had the first 20 minutes but were unable to though our defence. After the first shaky 20 minutes Southall Sunday settled down and dominated the rest of the play.
First goal came from a good corner, scored by Nims Dhaliwal. Amar Toor added a second just before half time with a good run from midfield.
An excellent start to the 2nd half with 2 goals in the first 5 minutes from Ravinder Lakhan which effectively killed the game off.
Ravinder added another 2 goals taking his tally to 4 for this game.
Sukhraj Hayre added another from the penalty spot after Amar Toor was fouled by the keeper. Amarjit Chand added the last of the 8 goals
Good team performance all round.

Southall played their first fixture for five weeks and got 2008 off to an excellent start when they completed the double over Bridge Rovers with a 4-0 win at Dormers Wells Sports Centre.

A good first half display produced goals from Orin Fredericks, Ricky Fletcher and Tesfa Lowe to give Southall a 3-0 half time lead. The second half proved a much more even contest and a goal from Orin Fredericks in time added on completed the scoring.

The Man of the Match award went to Wayne Dale.

January 22nd
Another one for the historians.

On this day in 1922 Southall travelled to play  RAF Depot Uxbridge in the Middlesex Senior Cup. The result was an 8-1 thrashing. Southall protested to the Middlesex County FA about one of the RAF players and the match was ordered to be replayed at Western Road. Despite the home advantage Southall lost the replayed match 1-0 on March 19th.

The Feliz Navidad spoof news item has certainly caught out some people! The web master was copied into an email that sent the item to several news sources and a further one that went to BBC London radio.

As a result of this Geoff Harrison spoke briefly last night to Phil Parry on the BBC London Thursday Sports Show about the background to the story and the ambitions of  Southall Football Club for the coming season.

December 26th
The web master would like to point out that the Feliz Navidad news item on December 24th is infact a spoof!

Former La Liga Player Joins Southall Management Team

Southall Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Seňor Feliz Navidad to the  newly created role of Director of Football Development.

Spanish born Navidad, 32, made appearances for Alaves, Valencia and Deportivo in La Liga and had a short spell with Sampdoria in Italy before a cruciate ligament injury cut short his playing career. As a player he had wisely obtained his coaching qualifications and following his career ending injury he moved into coaching roles at Betis and Osasuna. Lately he has been involved in management at several clubs in the Regional Preferente Grupo IV.

Indeed it was at a pre season friendly during August in Spain between two Regional Preferente Grupo IV sides UD Oliva and CD Javea that a chance conversation occurred  between Seňor Navidad and Southall Honorary Club Secretary Geoff Harrison. At the match which CD Javea won 3-1, a discussion arose about the relevant standards of Spanish and English Non-League Football.

Regular correspondence followed which culminated with an offer of the role of Director of Football Development and an invitation for Navidad to watch the Southall match away to West End United at the beginning of December. This was unfortunately postponed but in enough time to prevent Navidad from travelling. However, the match the following week against St Johns Athletic was recorded and sent to Navidad. As a result Seňor Navidad accepted the offer from the Club and will take up his post in time for the first match in January away to London United Football Academy.

Fog prevented Navidad arriving at Heathrow on Sunday for his planned Press Conference at The Park Inn at Heathrow but speaking via a satellite link this morning Navidad had this to say about the position with Southall Football Club:
I know that Southall has a very long and notable history and does not deserve to be playing at the level it is at now. When I met Seňor Harrison in August I was impressed with the vision that he had for such a worthy club and set about finding out more about Southall and non league football in England. This is an exciting opportunity for me to enter the English football system. From what I already know there are several good players already at the club and I am looking forward to working with Seňor DeCosta in a purely advisory role. I will not interfere with his team selection and decision making. If things work out with Southall, and I have no reason to think that I will have problems, then eventually I would like to also bring over Rudolfe Reno, someone that I have worked with in the past to aid with the training and dietary regime of the players.

Honorary Club Secretary Geoff Harrison added:
We are delighted that Feliz has agreed to join us at Southall. This is going to be an exciting time for this historic club and one that I know will make the rest of the Non League World sit up and take notice of Southall Football Club once again.

An excerpt from Senor Navidad's satellite link can be found here.

December 21st
The web site will not be updated again until December 24th at the earliest. However, a major announcement is expected within the next few days.

December 15th
A brace of goals from Player Manager Ryan DeCosta helped Southall return to winning ways with a 3-1 win over St Johns Athletic at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre.
St Johns took the lead on fifteen minutes and held this until DeCosta equalised eleven minutes later. There was no further scoring before half time.
In the second half DeCosta put the home side ahead from the penalty spot after 73 minutes and a goal ten minutes later from substitute Simeon Williamson sealed all three points for Southall.

The Middlesex County Football League has announced that Division One (Central & East) side St Lukes has folded. Their record has been expunged which means that Southall's 7-1 victory over them earlier in the season now does not count!

December 1st
Southall picked up their first point since October 27th with a 3-3 draw at home to The Wilberforce Wanderers.
The visitors opened the scoring before Ryan DeCosta equalised with a well struck free kick. Southall took the league through a well worked first goal for the Club by Ricky Fletcher. The lead was short lived as The Wanderers made the score 2-2 before the interval.
Southall had the upper hand through most of the second half and an excellent strike from Orin Fredericks after 71 minutes gave Southall a deserved lead. Four minutes later a defensive lapse allowed the visitors to level the score. The remainder of the game saw both teams have chances to snatch the win.

In the second half Ryan DeCosta gave Southall a 2-1 lead before a highly controversial penalty awarded against Cris Barrett was converted to tie the game. With a quarter of an hour remaining Brentham scored the decisive goal to give them a home tie against London United Football Academy in the next round.

October 23rd
Southall went out of the Senior Open Cup on Saturday when they lost 4-0 at home to Park View.

The web master is indebted to Gary Drew for providing information about the match.

Southall lost their first game of the season when fellow Division One (Central & East) side Park View ended the impressive sequence of six consecutive victories by comprehensively beating Southall by four goals to nil.
Southall had the first chances of the game in the opening minutes when Tesfa Lowe had two opportunities to score in quick succession from close range but both efforts were blocked.  After 10 minutes Ryan DeCosta prevented Park View going ahead when he cleared off the line from the visiting centre forward Osei.
Three minutes later Park View went ahead. through number 10 Williams when a cross cum shot went in off the right hand post.
There was no further score before half time.
At the start of the second half DeCosta brought on Richard Fletcher in place of Adrian Mason. Seven minutes into the half the visitors doubled their lead. Park View substitute (14) who had come onto the field a minute earlier had an immediate impact on the game when he rounded James Beavers in the Southall goal and squared the ball to Osei who had the simple job of tapping home the ball.
After 69 minutes Southall picked up their first caution of the season when DeCosta was yellow carded by referee Podsadny.
Seven minutes later it was 3-0. A long ball from over the top from the Park View defence found Osei by himself. He ran on unopposed, drew Beavers and made no mistake with his shot. Within a minute Southall were almost four down. Straight from kick off the home side lost the ball and the goal bound shot from Williams was cleared off the line by Wayne Dale.
Goal scoring chances for Southall were few and far between and in the 77th minute a long range shot from Oscar Bryce went over the visiting cross bar.
A minute later the scoring was complete. Another long ball through the middle was run onto by Osei who completed his hat-trick.
Simeon Williamson made his Southall debut with ten minutes to spare when he replaced Damir Brujic. Deep into time added on Tesfa Lowe incurred the wrath of Mr Podsadny when he became the second Southall player to be booked.

Manager Ryan DeCosta had this to say about the performance of his team:

Outplayed, outfought and out of the Cup. We were second best in every department and received the result our performance deserved. We never played well during any period of the game and every single player knows that they under performed. The big test is how we respond to this setback. I believe the character of my players will put us back on course. It was disappointing to finally lose but it isn't my job to dwell on the negatives but to eradicate them, by ruthless means if necessary. Find the positives, work on them and hopefully make us better next time around. Next week we're back to our league campaign and as I have stated earlier, the league is the bread and butter!

October 20th
Due to family commitments the web site will not be updated until at the earliest October 22nd.

Please continue to post news/views on the Message Board.

As well as Southall putting out Step 6 opposition in the Middlesex County FA Intermediate Cup yesterday there were three other instances of Middlesex County League sides doing the same feat. These were:

Hanworth Villa (Combined Counties Division 1) 3 Park View (Division 1 Central & East) 4
Feltham (Combined Counties Division 1)* 0 Northfield Shamrocks (Division 1 West) 1
Harrow St Marys (Division 2) 1 Sport London e Benfica (Spartan South Midlands Division 1) 0

Hanworth Villa are currently leaders of the Combined Counties Division 1 and Park View are the next opponents for Southall !!

* The Feltham match was played in midweek.

October 13th
Second half goals from Ryan DeCosta and Orin Fredericks helped Southall to a 2-0 home win over current holders Rayners Lane in Round Two of the MCFA Intermediate Cup. Southall will now face Staines Lammas in the next round.

October 7th
Following the victory yesterday against St Lukes, First Team Manager Ryan DeCosta has posted the following message on the Message Board. With his kind permission it is reproduced below:

You're right, Rayners Lane will definitely be a test for the Southall team. But saying that, yesterdays result (and the beginning of the season as a whole) has built confidence throughout the whole squad. What pleased me most about the game was the way the team played. Every player had a hunger, a willingness to work for one another and the team as a whole and wanted and felt comfortable with the ball.
We created so many good chances (including their keeper saving a penalty, hitting the woodwork twice) that if we'd have hit double figures it would not have been a flattering scoreline. I realise that games involving 'cricket scores' show a vast difference in the teams competing but as I stated earlier, for me, it was how we played! Since the start of this campaign we've won games but we haven't played as well or for long enough periods of the game as I want us to. The players know the standard I'm expecting from them and I applaud them for nearly reaching that mark yesterday. But we can't get carried away from one good performance and one scoreline. Its back to the drawing board and hard work at training this week. Obviously I have a season long goal and the old saying about 'the leagues the bread and butter' still holds true even at the level we are at the moment, but a good cup run or getting and winning a final sure as hell feels good! I remember playing in the FA Cup, FA Vase and even playing against AFC Wimbledon and the buzz and feelings that were involved in playing those games. As a player you should and want to play better opponents and this Cup game allows us to pit ourselves against those teams.
Rayners Lane will be the hardest opposition we have faced so far this campaign. They are a few levels above us, have played 4 or 5 more games than us so should have more cohesion and a better understanding of one another. But saying all of that it's still a one off game. I'll prepare my team to win and hopefully we'll get a few supporters down to cheer us on to do so.

October 6th
Hat-tricks from Chris Clafferty and Orin Fredericks and one from Jerry Moses helped Southall to a 7-1 victory at home to St Lukes.

October 4th
There will be a programme issued for the Middlesex County FA Intermediate Cup match at home to Rayners Lane. It is anticipated that the programme will cost £1.

September 30th
Following their 6-1 win over Spartan FC two weeks previously, Southall Sunday lost 3-1 away to Old Greenfordians in their latest Hayes & District Football League match.

September 29th
Southall continued their good early season form with a 4-2 win away to South Acton.

First Team manager Ryan DeCosta has provided the following report:

It took Southall less than a minute to open their account against South Acton. The home team took the opening kick off but were quickly relieved of possession and punished for their slow start. Chris Clafferty intercepted a pass and slotted a through pass to Orin Fredericks who held off the challenge from the defender before slotting the ball passed the keeper into the bottom right corner.
Southall dominated the early part of the game with South Acton resorting to clearing their lines and hoping one of their forwards could make something of it.
After 10 minutes Tesfa Lowe took his tally for the season to 4 with a well timed run to beat the off side trap, rounded the keeper then slid the ball home to take the score to South Acton 0 Southall 2. The Southall defence were kept on their toes and reminded that South Acton still posed a threat when Acton forward Christopher Johnson's shot from an acute angle hit the outside of the post.
In the 25th minute Southall should have increased the lead when, from an in swinging whipped free-kick from Ryan DeCosta, Cris Barrett directed his header passed the diving South Acton goalkeeper only to see it smash back into play after hitting the post. It only took another 5 minutes before the ball did find its way into the back of the South Acton net. Orin Fredericks grabbed his second goal of the game after some neat inter play between Wayne Dale and Andre Robinson set up Fredericks for an easy finish.
In the space of 5 minutes South Acton found themselves back in the game. In the 38th minute Christopher Johnson latched onto a long ball, rounded Southall keeper Damir Brujic and put the ball into the back of the net just in front of lunging leg of Anthony Francis. The goal seemed to spur
South Acton on, who then enjoyed a good spell of pressure which paid off in the 42nd minute when Zaied Sabbi timed his run to perfection (suspicions of offside really) to find himself unmarked in the area and then able to steer his header just past the finger tips of Brujic to bring South Acton from 2-0 down to 2-3.
Southall's response to being pegged back was instant and within two minutes had restored their 2 goal lead. Southall's fourth produced arguably the most audaciously piece of skill from Andre Robinson. Robinson beat two Acton defenders but found himself out near the left hand corner flag. As the Acton defenders began to bear down on him Robinson crossed the ball to the far post 'ala' Joe Cole to the on coming Fredericks who's little legs could only stretch so far and direct the cross onto the same post that Barret had hit earlier. Only on this occasion Southall had someone waiting to pounce on the rebound, Tesfa Lowe. After some bizarre decisions by the referee regarding stopping the game for injuries (you had to be there to believe it) the two teams went in at half time with the score South Acton 2 Southall 4.

The 2nd half saw neither team score anymore. Southall will feel they should have grabbed at least another two during the second period with the amount of chances they created but failed to capitalize on.
Adrian Mason made his debut for Southall, coming on as a late substitute.
Manager Ryan DeCosta was happy with the result but added "There are a few things we need to work on. We can't keep letting teams back into games and have to be more ruthless in front of goal. When it comes time to put teams to bed we should have no mercy".

September 22nd
Two goals from Tesfa Lowe and one each from Orin Fredericks and Andre Robinson helped Southall to a 4-2 home win over West End United.

Southall made their debut on their new home pitch of Perivale Park - a far cry from the almost billiard green surface at The Warren, the home of the former Yeading FC, that the Club was using only two years previously. The council operated pitch at Perivale Park has a very untrue surface, is not enclosed, has no dugouts or shelter for spectators but costs less for the whole season than one match cost at the Club's adopted home of last season at Avenue Park which itself is only an Intermediate Status ground as it  fails the criteria for Senior Status as prescribed by the Middlesex County FA.

Changes were made to the  team that comprehensively defeated Imperial College Old Boys the previous week. Leon Dussard was unavailable, Ryan DeCosta returned after serving his seven day suspension, James Beavers took over in goal and Oscar Bryce returned to the starting line up  in place of Ben Wilson.

Within two minutes of the start Southall were ahead when Tesfa Lowe slotted the ball home from the left hand side of the penalty area. Southall continued to look the brighter of the two sides and it was no surprise that they doubled their lead after a quarter of an hour. Andre Robinson brought the ball down on his chest and then lifted the ball over the defence for Orin Fredericks to run onto to score his first goal of the season.

As is usually the case, the arrival at the match of the web master heralded a change in fortunes and for the rest of the first half West End United looked by far the better side and any neutral observer would be forgiven for thinking that it was West End who had a two goal lead. Shortly before half time the lead was reduced. Following a corner which was poorly cleared the ball was scrambled home by Monero to bring West End right back into the game.

HALF TIME:   Southall     2                    West End United   1

The second half started with increased Southall possession but with the visitors clearly looking the more likely team to score. Just after the hour the seemingly inevitable happened. The Southall defence was breached which allowed Rahman to round Beevers and slot the ball home to bring the equaliser.

After 79 minutes Southall had the bit of luck that sometimes wins matches. A clearance from the West End keeper was charged down by Tesfa Lowe who slotted home the ball for his second goal of the match. This goal seemed to dampen the spirit of the visiting team and Southall once more began to look comfortable. With time running out a piece of individual magic by the irrepressible Andre Robinson, who at times showed that he is a class above most players in terms of skill, gave Southall their fourth and final goal.

Southall won through to the next round of the Senior Open Cup with a 3-0 win away to Division One (W) side Imperial College Old Boys.

Manager Ryan DeCosta was forced to change the team from the previous week with Cris Barrett being unavailable and both himself and Michael Blax unable to play due to suspension.

The match was played on a 'third generation' artificial surface which provided a good platform for the Southall team to display their passing skills and generally good ball control.

The match started very evenly with both teams moving the ball  about well but with attacks breaking down in the last third of the pitch at both ends. The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute with a good move initiated from midfield by the impressive Andre Robinson who played an accurate pass through to Leon Dussard whose shot was well saved by the Imperial College keeper. The ball fell loose to Tesfa Lowe who hit the target from 15 yards.

Twelve minutes later Southall were two up. As Robinson worked his way into the penalty area he was felled by a clumsy tackle which referee Mr Hazell adjudged to be a penalty. Leon Dussard made no mistake from the spot by putting the ball into the keeper's left hand corner of the net.

The remainder of the half saw some excellent moves from the Southall side with Orin Fredericks pressed into action at full back being particularly impressive.

HALF TIME:   Imperial College Old Boys 0                     Southall 2

Six minutes into the second half Southall gave themselves the luxury of a three goal lead. A quickly taken free kick from the left hand edge of the penalty area was hammered home by the quick thinking Leon Dussard
.

Midway through the second half the home side was reduced to ten men with the dismissal of one of their players for what appeared to be verbal abuse.

From this point onwards Southall seemed to take their foot off the gas and sat back and allowed the Old Boys much more possession. This produced a few worrying moments as the home side pressed to try to make the break through which could have produced a close finish. Damir Brujic in the Southall goal was called into action and his save in the final minute of the game was outstanding.

All in all this was a good performance by the Southall team, with Orin Fredericks being named as Man of the Match, but the inability to completely kill off the game particularly against ten men was a cause of concern for manager DeCosta who relayed this message to his team.

The home side took the lead which was cancelled out by a goal from Leon Dussard and Oscar Bryce added a second to give 'The Hall' a 2-1 lead at half time.

The second half saw Southall dominate the game and further goals from Wayne Dale and a brace from Chris Clafferty gave Southall an unassailable 5-1 lead before the home side pulled one back in the dying minutes.

Man of the Match was Cris Barrett.

Congratulations to Ryan and his set of players.
