April 2001

April 29th
The Youth Team match against Forest United was postponed due to the pitch at Forest United being waterlogged.
The home match against Chessington United has been scheduled for Wednesday May 9th, kick off 7.45 pm.


April 28th
A hat trick from Andre Robinson and a goal each from Chris Barret and Tony May gave Southall their best home win in the Combined Counties League this season when they defeated Merstham 5-0. 
Southall had Tony McKenzie dismissed in the first half for two bookable offences. 
The result avenged the 7-0 defeat at Merstham on January 6th.
The last 5-0 home win in a league match was on August 29th 1998 when Lewes were beaten  5-0 in a Ryman League Division Three fixture.
There was disappointment for Southall Reserves as they lost 2-0 at home to Neasden 2000 Reserves in the semi final of the President's Cup. Victory would have meant a meeting in the final with Southall Town Reserves who defeated North Greenford United Reserves 5-2.


April 24th

The Combined Counties League match at home to Chessington United was abandoned after 35 minutes due to floodlight failure. 
The score at the time was Southall 0 Chessington United 1.


April 23rd
On this day in 1898 Southall won the West Middlesex Cup when they defeated Hounslow 6-1 in front of 1500 spectators at Hanwell.

April 21st
Southall Reserves won 4-2 away to Broadfields United Reserves in their latest Middlesex County League Senior Division fixture.

April 20th
The news that the Conservative opposition on Ealing Council is to examine the tendering process that led to Southall Town  being awarded the lease to build a stadium on Glade Lane was the lead story in the Southall Gazette.

April 19th
On December 12th 2000 Shane O'Sullivan was said  to have scored six of the goals in the 7-1 defeat of Farnham Town although one of his goals was later attributed to an own goal. 
There was some debate as to whether he was the first person to score six goals for Southall.
It appears as though this feat has been achieved before:
R. Graves scored a double hat trick and seven hat tricks in his total of 45 goals in the season 1935-1936.

Frank Morrad scored six goals on THREE occasions:

28/08/1940 Enfield Home 8-1 Herts & Middlesex League
31/01/1942 Lyons Club Home 12-2 Middlesex Red Cross Cup
12/12/1942 Wealdstone Home 7-2 London Senior Cup

Morrad later signed for Notts County in August 1944 and went on to play for Leyton Orient, Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford scoring a total of 16 goals in 75 appearances.

April 16th
Southall's poor run continued with a 3-0 home defeat by championship contenders Cove. Shane O'Sullivan and Ricky Lewis were both sent off during the second half.
This was Southall's first ever home defeat against Cove having won 1-0, 2-0, 2-0 and 2-1 in their previous encounters in the 1990s when both clubs were members of the Isthmian League.

April 15th
A goal in the 89th minute gave Southall Youth Team a 2-1 win away to Brentford Town.

April 14th
Southall lost their second match in three days when they lost 2-1 at high fliers AFC Wallingford.
There was better news for Southall Reserves who beat Spelthorne Sports Reserves 3-2 in Round Two of the Presidents Cup.


April 13th
The twice postponed fixture away to Reading Town  has been re-arranged for Thursday May 3rd.

April 12th
Southall crashed to a heavy 4-0 home defeat by Bedfont who became the first side this season to complete a league double over Southall. 

April 8th
The Southall Youth Team home match against Broadwater United was postponed at short notice due to the unavailability of a pitch. 

April 7th
Southall made it two wins in a row when they defeated Godalming & Guildford 1-0 at Mill Meadow.

Southall Reserves lost their third game in a row when they were defeated 4-2 at home by North Greenford United Reserves. With five minutes remaining the score was level at 2-2 but  Southall gifted their opponents with two late goals.


April 5th
The Combined Counties League match away to Reading Town was again postponed.

April 4th
The twice postponed fixture away to Viking Greenford has been re-arranged for Monday May 14th.

April 3rd
Southall played hosts to Westfield in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League and won the match 2-0.
After a goalless first half Tony McKenzie put the home side ahead after 47 minutes and a further goal  from substitute Michael Spence gave Southall a welcome three points and reversed the scoreline from the earlier meeting on November 18th.

April 2nd
A report on the Ealing Council decision to award the Glade Lane site to Southall Town was the lead story in the Southall Gazette. The text of this article can be found here.

April 1st
A Francis Vangiladio goal gave Southall the lead after just five minutes at home to Broadfields United in the Semi Final of the Cardinal Ealing Youth League Cup but the Southall Youth Team eventually lost  the match 3-1.
Amar Mehli, the Club Commercial/Development Manager was at the game and commented:
 
Broadfields were all big lads, physically stronger than us in all areas  however there's no doubt that Southall played some very attractive football.  Footballing wise, we were the better side, we just needed to have a couple of bigger bodies to get amongst them.
