December 30th
The home match against Viking
Greenford which was abandoned on Boxing Day has been rescheduled
for Tuesday January 29th subject to ratification by the Combined
Counties League Management Committee.
December 29th
Southall finished 2001 with a 3-0
home win against Chessington & Hook United.
After a goalless first half, three goals in five minutes at
the beginning of the second half by O'Sullivan, Stiel and Barrett
gave Southall victory, although the match was far more even than
the score line suggests.
December 26th
The Boxing Day match at Mill Meadow against
Viking Greenford was abandoned after thirty nine minutes with Southall
leading 3-0.
Three goals in four minutes, an own goal and one each from Mo
Samba and Andrew Griffiths had put Southall in command but a
serious injury to a Viking Greenford player led the referee to
call off the game.
December 25th
On Christmas Day in 1899 Southall
played their first Christmas Day fixture when they travelled into
Hertfordshire to
play Watford in a Southern League Division Two match.
Southall went home empty handed as they lost the match 6-1.
December 22nd
Southall faced Sandhurst Town for the
second time within two weeks and again failed to obtain any points
from the fixture.
Southall started well and took the lead early on in the first half
but despite being the better team during that period they failed
to convert many goal scoring chances and allowed their opponents
to equalise. Worse was to come when just before half time a basic
goal keeping error gifted the visitors their second goal.
Even worse was to follow in the second half when the indiscipline which
has been a major problem at the club for the past two seasons rose
to the surface.
Two Southall players were sent off following an incident and
Sandhurst immediately capitalised on the advantage of playing
against nine men by scoring their third goal. The visitors added a
fourth goal to seal the double over Southall.
Southall Reserves were due to visit local rivals Southall Town
Reserves but for the fourth consecutive Middlesex County League
fixture Southall Town were unable to field a team.

One hundred years ago today
Southall played
Woodford at Avenue Road in an Amateur Cup Fourth Qualifying Round
Replay.
A week earlier the two clubs had fought out a 3-3 draw but this
time Southall proved the stronger and went on to win the replay
4-1 and earn themselves an away tie at Old Malverians in Round
One.
December 15th
Southall visited the
Downside Bridge Road ground of Cobham FC and came away with a very
comfortable 2-0 victory.
The visitors dominated the first half and squandered many goal
scoring chances which left the score goalless at half time. Two
headed goals in the third quarter of the game gave Southall their
sixth away win of the season.
If greater consistency could be found then Southall would be one
of the leading teams in the Combined Counties League.
Southall Reserves were narrowly defeated 3-2 at home by Ealing
Assyrians in the Middlesex County League.
December 11th
Southall travelled to Sandhurst Town
in the Combined Counties League and were deservedly
heavily defeated 4-0.
December 10th
On this day in 1904 Southall entertained Football League Division
2 side Leicester Fosse in the Sixth Qualifying Round of the F.A.
Cup which equates to the present day Second Round Proper of
the competition.
The league opposition proved too strong for Southall who lost the
game 0-4.
December 8th
Southall Reserves lost their latest
Middlesex County League game when they lost 5-0 away to Spelthorne
Sports Reserves.
December 7th
One hundred years ago today Southall
played Crouch End Vampires in a replayed Third Qualifying
Round tie in the Amateur Cup. In a match played at the home
of near neighbours Ealing, Southall were victorious 1-0.
This was the third match between the two teams in this
competition. The first game at the home of the Vampires had been
abandoned after 83 minutes with Southall losing 2-3. The match was
then replayed at Southall the following week when the teams drew
1-1.
Three weeks later the two teams met again in Round 3 of the
Middlesex Senior Cup with the Vampires gaining revenge by winning
3-1.

A hat trick from Tony Macenzie, a
brace of goals from Andre Robinson and one from Chris Barrett got
Southall back to winning ways with a 6-1 home victory over fourth
placed Chipstead.
Macenzie opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute and
during the first half the home team enjoyed the majority of the
possession and chances. A minute before the interval Macenzie
added a second goal.
The second half began as a more even contest and when Barrett
brought down a Chipstead player in the penalty area with the
resultant penalty being successfully converted it seemed as though
Southall might have once again pressed the self destruct button.
However Southall hit back and four goals in the last fifteen
minutes of the game gave Southall their second home victory of the
season and inflicted the first away defeat in the league on a now
dispirited Chipstead team.
Southall Reserves lost 3-1 away to Hounslow Wanderers in the
Middlesex County League.
