February 2004 - May 2004

May 29th
The Football Association has announced the dates for rounds of the FA competitions for the coming season.
The FA Cup kicks off on Saturday August 28th with matches in the Extra Preliminary Round whilst the FA Vase commences on Saturday September 11th with the First Qualifying Round.

As Southall did not compete in any FA competition during the 2003-2004 season they have been classed by the FA as a new entrant for the coming season. This means that the FA will only allow Southall to enter the FA Vase with entry into the FA Cup, which the Club first entered in the 1873-1874 season, permitted for the following season.

May 18th
Epsom & Ewell,  who were relegated from  Ryman League Division One South, have applied to join the Combined Counties League for next season.

The Combined Counties League Season 2004-2005 will begin on Saturday August 21st.

May 10th
Yesterday in Loughborough, FA National Leagues Manager Mike Appleby and representatives of the Conference, Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues were joined by representatives of Level 3 leagues to conclude the National League restructuring process.
AFC Wimbledon are the only club promoted from the Combined Counties League and next season will play in the Isthmian League Division One whilst neighbours Southall Town, who finished as runners up in the Hellenic Premier League, have also been promoted and placed in Southern League Division One East.
Landlords Chesham United will end their association with the Isthmian League as they have been placed in the Southern League Premier Division for next season.

May 8th
Southall have finished the season in fourth place in the Combined Counties League.
Reading Town took four points from their last two matches, a 3-3 draw away to AFC Wimbledon and a 3-1 win at home against Chessington & Hook United to end the season on 94 points, two ahead of Southall.
If Southall had not conceded a goal four minutes from time in the final match of the season against Chessington & Hook United then they would have finished in third place.
Please note that the link on this web site to a league table leads you to the Mitoo site which at the moment shows an incorrect table.

May 6th
First Team statistics for appearances, goals and discipline are now on the web site.

May 3rd
Southall completed their season with a 1-1 draw away to Chessington & Hook United. This result means that Southall will now finish no lower than fourth in the final table.
The match was played in wet, slippery conditions and to the credit of both sides the game was entertaining and contained good football.
Southall were the more dominant team throughout the match. On the half hour a superb save from goalkeeper Duffel denied Donal O'Sullivan a fine headed goal and shortly afterwards a goal bound header from O'Sullivan was cleared off the line.
Andre Robinson broke the deadlock  midway through the second half. Southall should have added to their tally but as with the previous game against Sandhurst they squandered numerous chances. Southall were made to pay for their inability to kill off the game when the home team broke away to equalise four minutes from time.

May 1st
The chance of a top three finish has almost has almost disappeared  with a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of fifth placed Sandhurst Town who extended their unbeaten run to fifteen matches.
In an evenly contested first half the visitors opened the scoring on 21 minutes through Peter Mulvaney. Five minutes later a header from Donal O'Sullivan brought the scores level.
Southall had the majority of possession after the interval but could not add to their tally. They were unable to convert their numerous chances due to hurried finishing and a fine display from Paul Cann in the Sandhurst goal. The visitors punished Southall when Mulvaney showed the home side how to finish when he added his second in the 81st minute. The scoring was completed four minutes into time added on by referee Paterson when Gavin Matthews scored with a cross come shot.

April 27th
Southall remain in third place following a 3-1 home win over Cobham. First half goals from Jerry Moses and Donal O'Sullivan gave Southall a two goal lead at half time. After the interval Marvin Rufus increased the Southall lead before Chris Stone pulled one back for the visitors in the closing minutes of the game.

April 24th
Two penalties from Byron Glasgow and a goal from Andre Robinson gave Southall a deserved 3-0 win away to last year's champions Withdean 2000.

April 21st
Southall have now slipped back to fourth place following the results from last night's matches:
Chessington & Hook 1 Sandhurst Town 2

April 17th
Southall maintained the momentum for a top three finish with a narrow 2-1 win away to Frimley Green. The condition of the pitch at The Recreation Ground was not conducive to good football and this was reflected in the opening exchanges.
Southall did get the ball in the net after twenty minutes but the effort was ruled out for offside. The deadlock was broken on 38 minutes when a long range shot from Byron Glasgow was not held by the Frimley goal keeper and Donal O'Sullivan was on hand to prod home the ball from close range.
Fourteen seconds into the second half Southall doubled their lead. From the kick off Southall worked the ball through to Jerry Moss who hammered a superb shot past the goal  keeper from 25 yards. Within six minutes Frimley pulled back a goal through Steve Bole who found himself unmarked in the left hand side of the penalty area and calmly lobbed the ball over the oncoming Ali Koro Samba.
For the remainder of the game although Southall looked the team more likely to add to their score they were unable to kill off the game and came close to losing two points when the home team rattled the cross bar midway through the half.

Southall Reserves completed their season in the Middlesex County League with a 2-0 defeat away to bottom club Wraysbury Reserves.

April 14th
Ryman  Division One North side Wealdstone won the Middlesex Charity Cup for the fourteenth time when they defeated Spartan South Midlands side Harefield United 2-1 after extra time.
Harefield United, who included former Southall player Jose Pena in their team, were appearing in their first ever Senior Middlesex final.
For your records Southall have won the Middlesex Charity Cup twelve times, the last being in 1984.

April 13th
Southall will now play Cobham on Tuesday April 27th. Kick off at The Meadow will be at 7.45 pm.

Last night Ryman Premier side Hendon won the Middlesex Senior Cup for the sixteenth time when they beat Ryman Division One North side Uxbridge 3-1 after extra time.
Hendon, who defeated Southall 2-0 in the semi final , have now completed a hat trick of wins in the Middlesex Senior Cup under the management of former Southall manager Dave Anderson.
For your records Southall have won the Middlesex Senior Cup twelve times, the last time in 1955 and have twice had a hat trick of wins, 1911-1913 and 1923-1925.

April 12th
Southall returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Middlesex neighbours North Greenford United. Jerry Moses opened the scoring on the quarter hour with a hard struck shot from the edge of the area. Troy Bantleman doubled the lead when he followed up his own shot which had been well saved by the visiting goalkeeper. Moses scored his second early in the second half with a shot  from close range following good work from Bantleman. Ryan DeCosta added the fourth goal towards the end of the match when he found himself clear on goal. He kept his composure to beat the goalkeeper and the covering defender.

The home match against Cobham which was scheduled for Tuesday April 20th has been postponed. This is because Chesham United are involved in a home County Cup match against Windsor & Eton. No new date has yet been arranged.

AFC Wimbledon are the new Champions of the Combined Counties League. In a morning kick off their closest rivals AFC Wallingford drew 1-1 with Reading Town. This left AFC Wimbledon knowing that a win away to Walton Casuals in their afternoon fixture would give them the championship.  They duly obliged their many supporters in the 1748 crowd with a 3-0 win.

Southall Football Club send their congratulations to everyone involved with AFC Wimbledon.

April 10th
Southall lost ground in the scramble for a top three finish with a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to eighth placed Chipstead. After a goalless first half two goals after the interval for the home side gave them all three points. Southall learnt the hard way that possession and missed chances count for nothing.

April 6th
Southall moved back into third place in the Combined Counties League with a 3-3 draw away to Ash United. In poor conditions the home side went into a two goal lead before Andre Robinson pulled back a goal for the visitors. Ash United then  restored their two goal lead which they kept till half time. After the interval Donal O'Sullivan reduced the lead and Southall pulled level courtesy of a goal from Byron Glasgow. Despite sustained pressure Southall were unable to find the winning goal and had to be satisfied with their first ever point at Young's Drive.

Southall's nearest rivals Walton Casuals suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat at the hands of North Greenford United.

April 3rd
A little bit of history was made shortly before half time when Donal O'Sullivan headed Southall into a 1-0 lead over Middlesex neighbours Feltham. This goal was the 100th goal scored this season by Southall in league competition and is the first time that this has happened in the Club's 132 year old history.
Donal O'Sullivan went on to score a hat trick and one each from Andre Robinson and Byron Glasgow secured all three points for Southall with an emphatic 5-0 win.
The result was the more impressive due to the fact that Southall were forced to play the game without a recognised goalkeeper. Ryan DeCosta was forced into action between the posts due to the late unavailability of both Ali Koro Samba and Daniel Leonard.

March 29th
On this day in 1901, Southall suffered their record defeat when they visited Grays United for a Southern League Division Two match.
By kick off time only seven players had turned up and by the time that three more arrived Southall were already losing 9-0. This influx of players helped partly to stem the tide but Southall eventually lost the match 14-0. That season Grays United finished as runners up to Brentford whilst Southall finished bottom.

March 28th
The Southall Secretary Geoff Harrison was the Guest of Honour today at the Middlesex County Sunday Junior Trophy Final between Enfield Rosaneri and BAA Heathrow Sunday III played at the home of Uxbridge FC.
As well as his Southall roles Geoff is a Council Member at Middlesex County FA, a member of the County Cups Committee, Editorial & Marketing Committee and the Club Status & Grounds Committee. He is also the County Historian and County Press Officer.
For your records the match was won 3-2 by Enfield Rosaneri

March 27th
Southall entertained Champions Elect, AFC Wimbledon in front of the largest crowd seen at The Meadow for any match this season. The 647 spectators present saw the well organised visitors produce an impressive display of football and team work and the manner of their 4-0 victory made Southall look a very ordinary team.
After an even opening quarter of an hour, two goals in five minutes from Kevin Cooper and then Gavin Bolger put AFC Wimbledon firmly in the driving seat. The second half continued in the same vein and further goals from Jamie Taylor on 69 minutes and a one from Lewis Taylor two minutes from time gave AFC Wimbledon a well deserved victory.

There was better news for Southall Reserves who recorded a 1-0 win away to Spelthorne Sports Reserves courtesy of a goal from Chatan Patel.

The chances of overtaking second placed AFC Wallingford receded further when Southall were held to a 2-2 draw by Horley Town.
Donal O'Sullivan gave Southall an early lead which proved short lived. The home side took the lead which they held until fifteen minutes from the end when Kieron Chambers gave Southall a well deserved equaliser.

Southall kept up the pressure on second placed AFC Wallingford with a comfortable 2-0 win over Raynes Park Vale.
A first half goal from debutant Troy Bantleman and one after the interval from top scorer Andre Robinson secured all three points for Southall.

March 9th
Southall made it two wins in a row with a 2-0 win over Godalming & Guildford. Following a goalless first half goals from Donal O'Sullivan and Alan Johnson sealed all three points for 'The Hall'.

March 6th
After the disappointment of the defeat by Hendon in the Middlesex Senior Cup, Southall resumed their league campaign with a visit to Hartley Wintney.
A Donal O'Sullivan hat trick, a brace of goals from Andre Robinson and one each from Alan Johnson and Jerry Moses helped Southall to a 7-3 win and lifted them back into third place in the table.

Southall Reserves entertained bottom side Wraysbury Reserves and enjoyed a good 4-2 win.

March 3rd
Southall's last realistic chance of silverware was ended when they lost 2-0 to Ryman Premier side Hendon in the Semi Final of the Middlesex Senior Cup. Despite a tremendous battling performance a  full strength Hendon outfit had just too much quality in depth and deserved to go forward to the final of the competition where they will meet either Bedfont or Uxbridge.

February 28th
There was a return to winning ways with a 3-2 home victory over Westfield.  Until the 65th minute Southall were coasting to victory with a 3-0 lead. Two quick goals in succession, unnecessarily conceded, put Westfield back into the game. Southall survived this set back and went onto take all three points.

Southall results drew 0-0 away to basement side Hanworth Villa Reserves in their latest Middlesex County League match.

February 24th
Southall's season continued to disintegrate when they suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at home to Division One side Coney Hall.
The visitors who had already disposed of Sandhurst Town and Reading Town made it a hat trick of victories over Premier Division opposition with an impressive team display that bettered Southall in almost all departments.
Coney Hall were two goals up within the first twenty minutes and lead by four clear goals at the interval. Shortly before half time Southall were reduced to ten men when Dan Mascoll was adjudged to have kicked an opponent and was dismissed.
Southall showed more determination in the second half and at the mid point stage they pulled one goal back through a penalty by Alan Johnson.
Matters took a turn for the worse shortly afterwards when Leon White was sent off for violent conduct. Coney Hall made the most of the two man advantage to add two further goals and earn themselves a money making semi final tie at home to AFC Wimbledon.
Southall will need to improve themselves greatly both  in terms of attitude and discipline if they harbour any hope of beating Hendon next week in the Middlesex Senior Cup.

It was again very obvious to the spectators present that Southall at the moment play as a team of individuals and not as individuals playing as a team unit.

February 21st
Southall returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory away to Cove. A brace of goals from Andre Robinson gave Southall all three points to maintain their challenge for a top three finish in the Seagrave Haulage League.
A strong biting wind and an uneven playing surface were not conducive to good football and the first half was scrappy with neither side looking capable of taking control of the game. The deadlock was broken in the final minute of the half with a well taken goal by top scorer Andre Robinson.
The second half saw the strength and ability of Southall come to the fore and an excellent second goal from Andre Robinson midway through the half gave the visitors a two goal cushion which they held onto comfortably.

Southall Reserves narrowly lost 3-2 at home to top of the table Enfield Reserves in the Middlesex County League.

February 19th
If  Southall beat Coney Hall in the Quarter Final of the Premier Challenge Cup they will be at home to AFC Wimbledon in the Semi Final of that competition.
AFC Wimbledon, who yesterday dismissed their manager Terry Eames, defeated near neighbours Raynes Park Vale 5-0 to reach the last four.

February 18th
The Middlesex Senior Cup Semi Final at home to Ryman Premier side Hendon will take place on Wednesday March 3rd with kick off at 7.45 pm.

Season Ticket Holders and Members are reminded that season tickets and membership cards are not valid for County Cup matches

Normal admission prices will apply:

February 17th
Southall continued their disappointing league form with a 2-0 defeat away to Middlesex neighbours Bedfont. The two evenly matched teams created few chances in the first forty five minutes and played out a goalless first half.
The home side opened the scoring two minutes after the interval and added a second ten minutes later following an error by the otherwise reliable Samba.

Southall allowed their heads to drop and in the remainder of the game produced a below par performance. They looked uncoordinated and for the second match in succession they gave the impression that they were a team of individuals rather than individuals playing together as a team unit.

This result means that Southall have now lost three very important 'six pointers' in succession. They now need to ensure that their season does not collapse around them.

The Bedfont match marked the debut of former Reading midfielder Byron Glasgow.
