January 22nd
Southall played second in the table Ash United at Mill Meadow and were defeated 5-3 to end the run of three consecutive victories.
Ash United, whose excellent run in the F.A. Vase ended last Saturday with a 3-0 home defeat by Northern League Tow Law Town, were quickly into their stride and opened the scoring after three minutes Southall soon hit back when Tony Macenzie scored from the edge of the penalty area three minutes later. What followed was a lesson in football from a well organised and determined Ash side who added further goals in the 15th, 18th and 28th minutes. Southall looked ragged and disorganised and when Ash added a fifth just before half time a defeat of Uxbridge proportions seemed likely.
The second half produced a much more even game of football and a spirited display from the home side. O'Sullivan pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 65th minute and Tony Gordon finished the scoring with a well taken headed goal five minutes from time.

January 19th
Southall completed the double over bottom club Cranleigh with a 5-0 victory at Mill Meadow.
The home side created many chances in the early part of the match and went ahead in the 18th minute. There was no further scoring before half time.
Cranleigh began the second half the stronger of the two teams and although Southall began to dominate the game they found the visiting goal keeper in fine form and wasted opportunities  through over elaboration.
The visitors tired and Southall took full advantage and added a further four goals in the last twenty five minutes of the match.
This win moves Southall into eighth position in the Combined Counties League.
Southall Reserves lost 5-1 at home to Hounslow Wanderers in the Middlesex County League.

January 18th
One of the earliest recorded matches took place on this day in 1873 when Southall made the short trip into Ealing and defeated Ealing Rovers 3-1.

January 15th
Goals from Tony Macenzie and Andre Robinson were enough to give Southall all three points in a scrappy home encounter against Bedfont.
The visitors began the stronger and came close in the first twenty minutes with a header against the post and a volley just over the bar. It wasn't until the 22nd minute that Southall created a chance when Robinson shot wide from a good position and this was followed quickly by Brooker shooting over the bar from the edge of the area. The remainder of the half was devoid of clear cut chances for either side and half time came with the score goalless.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when after 47 minutes Tony Macenzie shot from the edge of the penalty area through a crowd of players.
Both sides counter attacked well but the final ball into the penalty area was often wasted by being over hit or by finding an opposition player.
On 83 minutes Andre Robinson  scored with  a low fierce shot from the edge of the area to give Southall a two goal cushion.
Bedfont  hit back and with two minutes to go they hit the bar and forced goal keeper Samba to make a good save from the follow up.
This result ended a losing sequence of five matches against Bedfont and gave Southall their first victory against the visitors since September 26th 1989.

January 12th
Southall visited the Wey Court home of Godalming & Guildford for the second time this season and reversed the result of the previous League Cup encounter with a 2-1 victory.
There  were debuts for goalkeeper Daniel Heward and defender Karim Aisawi together with several changes from the 7-1 debacle at AFC Wallingford who incidentally had defeated Godalming & Guildford 10-2 on December 22nd.
Southall had the better of the early game with two good chances squandered within the first 10 minutes. The first goal came on 27 minutes when O'Sullivan headed home a corner from Robinson. Four minutes later an excellent move saw Glover cross accurately for Trevor Brooker to head just wide.
Brooker made amends a minute later when he  latched onto a through ball to give goalkeeper Adlam no chance. Southall continued to press and Robinson was close from a shot from a very acute angle. Simon Glover provided problems for the home team  with several overlapping runs from defence. The half time interval arrived without any further scoring.
The second half saw Southall thwarted on several occasions by the home keeper Arjuna  Adlam who had an outstanding match and who pulled off several excellent saves.
Southall came close to adding to their tally when they twice hit the bar -  from a twenty five yard  free kick by O'Sullivan and a headers by  Chris Barrett. While Southall searched for a third goal to kill off the game the home side began to hit the visitors on the counterattack and were rewarded  by a goal in the 88th minute from a well taken shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Southall Reserves had a home match against  Ealing Assyrians  in Round One of the Presidents Cup. The visitors went through to the next round with a 2-1 victory.

This week has seen the Third Round of the F.A. Cup with West Ham comfortably defeating Macclesfield and Wycombe Wanderers drawing 2-2 with Fulham.
One hundred years ago this month Southall played both West Ham and Wycombe Wanderers.
On January 4th West Ham visited the Avenue Road ground to play Southall in a friendly. Southall beat the Hammers 4-2.
The following Saturday,  January 11th Southall travelled into Buckinghamshire to play Wycombe Wanderers in a Southern League Division Two fixture. Southall returned from Loakes Park after being thrashed 11-0. This followed a 9-1 defeat away to Wycombe in the previous season.
Southall also played Fulham in the Southern League during the 1901-1902 season with Fulham doing the double over Southall on their way to the league championship.

January 5th

Southall visited Oxfordshire to play league leaders AFC Wallingford and were heavily defeated 7-1.
The home side quickly established their superiority and went into the half time interval ahead by four goals. Two further goals were added at the start of the second half and it was only at this point that Southall began to show that they also could play. O'Sullivan missed yet another penalty for the visitors before a consolation goal was scored. AFC Wallingford added a seventh  before the end of the game to extend their run of consecutive league victories to 14 matches.
The Southall Reserve match at home to Broadfields United Reserves was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
