March 2002

March 30th
Southall extended their unbeaten run to six matches when they drew 1-1 at home to Chessington United.
The visitors went ahead in the 30th minute and in a scrappy game kept their lead until the second minute of time added on for injury at the end of the match. Southall were awarded a penalty which O'Sullivan hit straight at the keeper. Luckily for Southall O'Sullivan was the first to react to the rebound to score a deserved equaliser.
Southall Reserves won their first match since October 20th when they defeated Neasden 2000 Reserves 1-0 at the White Lodge Club. This win avenges the 7-1 defeat by their opponents in November.


March 27th
Southall hosted Viking Greenford in a replayed Combined Counties League fixture and won the match 5-0.
Sinclair opened the scoring after 10 minutes and an O'Sullivan penalty after 31 minutes doubled the lead. Sinclair added his second goal four minutes later and a goal from Brooker three minutes before half time gave Southall a comfortable 4-0 lead at the interval.
The second half was a more even contest with Southall scoring once more through Steve Macenzie in the 52nd minute.
The game was replayed due to the initial encounter on December 26th being abandoned after 39 minutes.
The victory moves Southall up to seventh position in the Combined Counties League.


March 23rd

Southall completed the double over Chessington & Hook United when they visited the Chalky Lane ground in Chessington and recorded a 3-2 victory.
In a somewhat heated first half  Southall went behind as early as the seventh minute but pulled themselves together to lead 3-1 at the interval.
The second half calmed down and an even contest ensued with the home team pulling back a late goal to leave the score 3-2  in favour of  the visitors.
Southall Reserves had no fixture.

March 21st
The replay of the Semi Final of the Amateur Cup took place on this day in 1953.
Over 22000 spectators were at Craven Cottage to see Morgan Reynolds score for Southall only for them to go down 2-1 to a Pegasus side which went on to thrash Harwich & Parkeston 6-0 in the final at Wembley in front of 100000 people.

 
March 20th
The Second Round Middlesex Charity Cup match away to Hanwell Town has been arranged for Wednesday April 3rd with a 7.45 pm kick off.

March 19th
Southall visited Chipstead in the Combined Counties League hoping to complete the double over them following the 6-1 victory at home in December but came away with a 2-2 draw. This result leaves Southall in ninth position

March 17th
The home match against Merstham which was postponed yesterday has been rearranged for Tuesday April 16th.

March 16th
The Combined Counties match at home to Merstham and the Middlesex County match away to Broadfields United Reserves were both postponed.

March 15th
The web master has been advised that there will be a pitch inspection at 8.30 am tomorrow to ascertain whether the home match against Merstham can go ahead.

March 14th
On this day in 1953 Southall faced Pegasus in the Semi Final of the Amateur Cup.
In a match played at Highbury, in front of 29982 spectators  who had paid a total of £5146, the two teams fought out a 1-1 draw. Billy Wenlock was the Southall scorer.


March 9th
A brace of goals from Tony Macenzie gave Southall a well deserved 2-1 victory over Westfield at Woking Park.
Southall Reserves entertained Western Command but lost the Middlesex County League match 4-2.


March 7th
Southall progressed to Round 2 of the Middlesex Charity Cup with a 3-2 victory over Spartan South Midlands side Ruislip Manor.
In the next round they will meet Hanwell Town who are currently in second position in the Spartan South Midlands League. A date for the match has yet to be agreed.


March 6th
The web master would like to apologise to visitors who have been unable to access the Message Board over the past few days. This is  due to a security breach of the internet server of Bravenet who host the facility resulting in outside access being temporarily disabled. Bravenet has  advised that the facility will be restored as soon as possible.

March 5th
Southall visited second placed Ash United in their latest Combined Counties fixture hoping to reverse the 5-3 home defeat on January 22nd. This was not to be as Ash United completed the double over Southall with a comfortable 4-0 win.

March 4th

The latest Fair Play table issued by the Combined Counties League shows Southall in 19th position with 55 points made up of 31 cautions and 8 dismissals this season.
The Fair Play table is headed by Westfield with 23 points with only Feltham (65 points), Reading Town (66 points ) and Chessington United (68 points ) below Southall in the table.

March 2nd
Southall fought back from two goals down to earn themselves a 2-2 draw against third placed Hartley Wintney.
Southall Reserves faced a difficult match away to second placed Western Command and returned home with a 4-0 defeat.
