The Non League Paper has carried the following article in today's edition about the abandonment of the recent match against Sandhurst Town and which could result in serious action being taken against Southall Football Club.

Unfair on Southall says boss in dock

SOUTHALL are facing expulsion from the Seagrave Haulage Combined Counties League following shameful scenes at their match last weekend.

Southall were losing 1-0 to Sandhurst Town when referee Bill Christie called off the match with just three minutes remaining after being surrounded by protesting players.

Manager Frank Gill claims his side are being victimised, but it is understood his argument will curry little favour with league officers who are increasingly annoyed at Southall's reputation.

They are due to meet on Monday night to consider the incident, which was sparked when Christie did not dismiss Sandhurst's Shane O' Sullivan (sic)  after a crude challenge.

They have several options, but member clubs are thought to be pressing for Southall's expulsion at this summer's annual meeting.

"We'll deal with this situation, but I can't speculate on the outcome," said league secretary Alan Constable.

"We've asked for reports from all parties, although we haven't received anything from Southall yet.

"It's a very serious matter given their previous record of misbehaviour.

"This was not an isolated incident. It's the sixth or seventh time this season we've had adverse reports."

Sandhurst, whose manager, Peter Browning, could also be in hot water after rushing on to the pitch to confront the referee following an earlier incident, are refusing to comment about the flare-up.

But Southall boss Gill is seething and his comments are bound to fuel the anger of league officials.

"This is my third year here and there is definitely an anti-Southall feeling within the league," he fumed.

"We face an uphill struggle because we keep getting bad decisions and so many teams just try to wind us up."

The web master would like to thank supporter Steve Cullen for providing the following  information.
The Seagrave Haulage League match at home to Sandhurst Town was abandoned shortly before the end with Sandhurst winning 1-0.
In a largely uneventful first half Phil Eagle was dismissed in the 25th minute.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first until  the 80th minute when Sandhurst took the lead through a headed goal from a corner.
Shortly before the end of the game there was an incident following a foul on a Southall player, the aftermath of which resulted in the  referee abandoning the match.

The web master has not received any comment or official statement from Southall Football Club.

The Non League Paper contains the following about the above match:

There was controversy at Southall, where the hosts' clash with Sandhurst was called off with three minutes to go after a melee. Sandhurst were leading 1-0 against ten-men at the time.
Sandhurst secretary Tony Ford was remaining tight-lipped last night. 'I don't want to comment until I've made my report to the league,' he said.

The appearance of Maxi Priest in Southall colours two weeks ago continues to make the media. The story has now been covered by the BBC website and for the moment can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/funny_old_game/2877905.stm

The latest Fair Play League table issued by the Seagrave Haulage League sees Southall firmly at the bottom.
Southall have amassed  42 cautions and 10 dismissals during League matches this season.

In contrast to the current disciplinary situation at the Club  the following is from the programme for the home match against Maidenhead United on August 31st 1963:

Southall has received a  letter from the Football Association congratulating the Club on  the good behaviour of the players last season (1962-1963). There was not one single case of misconduct by any of the players that was reported to the ruling body.  This is particularly gratifying in view of the provocation received on some occasions.

A report of the Chessington United  match written by Steve Cullen is now on the web site.

March 15th
Three first half goals from Chris Barrett, Shane O'Sullivan and Andrew Griffiths helped Southall to a 3-2 away victory over Chessington United.
Southall took an early lead through  Chris Barrett but allowed Chessington to equalise shortly afterwards following a defensive blunder. Alpha Bangura proved a constant threat to the home defence and Shane O' Sullivan restored the Southall lead midway through the half. Just before the interval Andrew Griffiths gave the visitors a two goal cushion.
Not for the first time this season the second half was a marked contrast to the first with the quality of football politely described as poor. Chessington pulled back a goal through a penalty and Southall held onto their lead to take all three points to complete the double over their opponents.
Phil Eagle received the solitary Southall booking

March 13th
The appearance of reggae singer Maxi Priest in Southall colours has again prompted a newspaper report.
The following article is from this week's Ealing Times:

Pop star turns out for Halls
POP sensation Maxi Priest made a surprise turnout for Southall FC on Saturday, after the Seagrave Haulage League outfit struggled to field a squad because of injuries and suspensions.

The 43-year old music icon, famous for chart topping hits like Just A Bit Longer and Close To You, came on as a second-half substitute to team up with his son Marvin in the Halls' 3-0 home defeat to Feltham.

Priest, whose real name is Max Elliott, was given an unexpected SOS call-up by manager Frank Gill after a number of first team regulars were absent from duty.

It was just like old times for Gill, because he and Priest used to kick a ball around in their home town of Lewisham where both grew up together.

The dreadlocked Jamaican-born reggae artist, who spends most of his time jetting back and forth between London and New York, went back more than 25 years to put on a pair of football boots to grace the turf at Mill Meadow, home of Chalfont St Peter.

Yet having toured for two decades, and playing to constant packed arenas all over the world, Priest's homecoming, for once, failed to capture the usual excitement, but demonstrated that his teenage sporting abilities are still very much in tact.

SHL President and Registration Secretary Ron Monkley said: "Southall faxed through the details to me on the Friday so he was eligible to play on the Saturday.
"However, there are so many registrations to deal with, I didn't realise who it was at first".

It's not the first time the West London outfit have silenced the critics with big name signings.
Two-and-a-half years ago, the club scooped the services of ex-Spurs and England footballer Terry Fenwick to the then position of Director of Football. But Fenwick departed six-months later, after landing a coaching position with the Trinidad and Tobago national squad.

Southall's next match is away to Chessington United on Saturday, where the legendary singer may again be on hand to voice his opinions from the dugout.

The following article appeared in today's edition of The Times:

Maxi Priest plays just a bit longer to ease Southall crisis
MAXI PRIEST, the singer famous for such hits as 'Just a Bit Longer' and 'Close To You', appeared as a surprise second-half substitute for Southall FC on Saturday as the Seagrave Haulage League club struggled to field a side in the absence of a number of first team players.
Priest, 43, whose real name is Max Elliott, teamed up with his son Marvin.
Southall lost 3-0

March 8th
A weakened Southall side lost 3-0 at home to Feltham. Southall were unable to call on the services of many first team regulars and squad players due to suspensions and injuries and never seriously threatened a well organised Feltham team.
Liban Hassan and Daniel Petros made their first team debuts with Leon Elliott and Max Elliott on the substitute bench.
Max Elliott, the father of first team regular Marvin and substitute Leon,  is better known as international reggae star Maxi Priest.
