September 28th
Southall put the double disappointment of
defeats in the FA Cup and FA Vase behind them with a competent
4-2 win at home over Westfield.
In the absence of Jason Hartles the goalkeeping gloves again
went to central defender Ryan De Costa but instead of being
tested by the opposition it was the forward players who soon
got into their stride. .Donal O'Sullivan opened the scoring on
four minutes and in the 18th minute Westfield drew level through
Simon Reeves. Erron Dussard fired Southall ahead after 28
minutes and this remained the score until half time.
Three minutes after the interval Donal O'Sullivan scored his
second of the night and Leon Fisher completed the Southall
scoring in the 65th minute. John Edwards was unlucky enough to
put through his own net ten minutes later to give Westfield
their second goal.
This victory gives Southall maximum points from seven matches.

Information from the Ramsgate web site
suggests that three Southall players were sent off yesterday in
the second half for abusive language towards the match
officials. The winning goal came on 65 minutes after a penalty
was awarded for handball.
In the absence of information from Southall Football Club the
web master
would welcome further details from anyone who was at the match
yesterday.

FA Carlsberg Vase
Preview
Southall v Wroxham |
This weekend Southall welcome
Wroxham to The Warren for a match in the First Qualifying Round
of the FA Carlsberg Vase.
Wroxham
,who were founded in 1892, also play in Step Five in the Premier
Division of the Ridgeons Eastern Counties League. They currently
lie in seventh position with twelve points from seven matches
and on the opening day of the season they defeated last week's
opponents Mildenhall Town 2-0 at their Trafford Park ground.
They have also won through to the Second Qualifying Round of the
FA Cup with a 4-1 win at home over Leighton Town following a 1-1
draw in Bedfordshire and a 2-0 home win over fellow Eastern
Counties League side Diss Town.
Wroxham have enjoyed tremendous success
over the past two decades by winning the Eastern Counties League
on no less than seven occasions. They won the title in 1988-89,
1991-92, 1992-92, 1993-94, 1996-97, 1997-98 and 1998-99 and last
season finished in fifth position behind champions AFC Sudbury.
They are no strangers to success
in the FA Vase having reached the Quarter Final in 2001-02 and
the Fifth Round in 1999-2000 and 2003-04. The Fourth Round was
also reached in seasons 1997-98, 1998-99 and 2002-03.
Wroxham's record in the FA Vase can be found
here.
Since the 1985-86 season when we won through to the FA Vase
Final at Wembley Stadium our
record in the FA Vase has been to put it mildly poor We
have not won more than one game in the competition since that
season. Our only successes have been a 3-2 win over Eton Manor
in 1991-92 and a 5-3 victory over our then landlords Chalfont St
Peter in the 2000-01 season.
September 14th

FA Cup Preview
Southall v Mildenhall Town |
This weekend Southall play
Mildenhall Town for the first time when the two clubs meet in
the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.
Mildenhall Town, who play in the Premier Division of the
Ridgeons Eastern Counties League, won through to this stage with
a 3-1 win over Southern League Division One East side Potters
Bar Town.
Mildenhall Town, who like Southall are a Step Five club,
currently lie in 12th position in the Ridgeons Eastern Counties
League Premier Division with seven points from five matches.
Their results
and
league position can be found by following the highlighted
links.
Mildenhall Town are relative newcomers to the FA Cup first
entering the competition in the 2000-2001 season. In that
inaugural season they made an impressive debut defeating Ilford
4-0 away, Northampton Spencer 2-0 away, Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-0
at home before going out to Ryman Premier side Grays Athletic
2-0 at home in the Third Qualifying Round.
The
Mildenhall Town web site, information on the
history of Mildenhall
Town and pen pictures
of their players can be found by following the links.
On a very pessimistic note it is 27 seasons since Southall won
two matches in the FA Cup! In that 1978-1979 season Southall,
then an Isthmian League Division One side, won through to the
Fourth Qualifying Round losing 2-1 away to Eastern Counties side
March Town United who were rewarded with a visit to Swindon Town
in the First Round Proper.
Details of that last Cup Run can be found
here.
September 4th
A new Club Record has been
created with the 3-2 victory over Chipstead.
The victory extended the winning start to six league matches and
this is now the best ever in the history of the Club.
The previous record of five wins at the start of a league
campaign had been achieved three times in seasons 1912-1913,
1952-1953 and 1959-1960.
Congratulations to all involved.
Information about the results in the
1912-1913, 1952-1953 and 1959-1960 seasons can be found
here.
September 3rd
Southall continued their winning run and
retained top position with a 3-2 home win over bottom club
Chipstead.
Chipstead took the lead in the 20th minute through Ageyey and it
took a Leon Dussard free kick after 35 minutes to bring the
scores level. Craig Worrall put Southall in front a minute
before half time.
In the second half Andre Robinson increased the lead for
Southall with a goal in the 70th minute. Young pulled a goal
back for Chipstead with ten minutes remaining and the visitors
had a goal disallowed for offside just before the final
whistle.
September 2nd
The First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase
